The easiest way to reach Refuge A is from Litohoro village.
Litohoro is located 400km from Athens and only 92km from Thessaloniki.
You can get there by car, public bus or train. Please take notice that
the train station is 3km outside the village.
From Litohoro, there is a 18km road to the "Prionia"
location at 1.100m altitude. This is the end of the road, with a (free)
parking area and a small restaurant-cafeteria.
From there, you take the trail on foot, that brings you to Refuge A after
a 6km uphill walk. The trail is part of the E4 European Long Distance
Path and is clearly marked with signs along the path. Normal time to reach
the refuge from Prionia is from 2:30' to 3:30'. |

For the hard-core mountaineers, there is also a part
of the E4 Long Distance Path that starts from Litohoro village and
follows the Enipea river, up to Prionia location.
This is a 11km walk with a steep start but the countryside is wonderful.
The normal time it takes to complete this part of the trail is about
5 hours. |

The Long Distance Paths give
the possibility to discover the European territory on foot,
by crossing several areas which are very interesting both for their
landscape and from a naturalistic point of view.
They are linked one to the other, and they can be appreciated both in the long distance
and in short itineraries from time to time: they are without a doubt a great occasion
for trekking-loving people and for those who love nature and like moving in a fascinating
and suggestive manner. |
